This bottle is by far the best for babies and toddlers! I know that is a bold claim but hear me out!

This week I’ve been searching for a water bottle. I’ve been using glass bottles that I’ve saved from juices or tomato passata and so far they’ve been good. They don’t leak and you can get them in various sizes to suit your bag. They’re easy to clean (dishwasher) and they don’t transfer smells. But my son loves to play with them because he’s at the age where he sees us doing something so he has to do it or have one too. He’s not very delicate with fragile things either and so far we’ve thrown out about 3 glass bottles, a Pyrex roasting dish, along with the glass lid, and about half a dozen glasses (we let him drink from mini IKEA glasses - following Montessori principles). This is only in the last 3 months! So I’ve been thinking of getting a more robust bottle as I’ve had to sweep up broken glass too many times!

Now, my toddler loves bottles. That is no overstatement. He loves lids, putting them on, opening, closing, opening, closing, it goes on and off, on and on like this. He loves new bottles and wants every bottle he sees in shops.

Also following Montessori, and other paediatric experts on Instagram (I haven't looked up any credentials but they sound legit!), we should be moving away from sippy cups or bottles with teats as this will potentially alter his jaw development. So I wanted a stainless steel (good - depending on level of alloy added) or glass bottle (better) that I could sterilise thoroughly. I found the Cherub Baby bottle. I first came across their products because they do a silicone lid that can be placed over most glasses for a quick and easy spill proof glass with a straw. We have a couple of these that have come in very handy (I've put this in another post). But I then found they also have bottles.

It is made from borosilicate glass with a silicone sleeve to prevent cracks and breakages. (They give a drop guarantee of 2 years as well!) We started use the straw version of the bottle with an unregulated flow and our baby loves it.

The straw is weighted so that whichever way he tilts the bottle, he will still be able to draw water up. Rarely this has become stuck in a funny position and so he can’t get any water out but after a light shake, it’s fine again. Of course if there is very little water in the bottom, the weight won’t seek it out.

The silicone sleeve is colour changing! If the liquid is too hot (over 42C), the sleeve turns white to warn you not to give it to baby just yet. We don’t find the need to make use of this feature very often because I’m not often putting boiling water in anymore but it is fun to watch when I do sterilise the bottle and it's a good safety feature nonetheless. Over time the sleeve has stretched a tiny bit but it still fits well, without falling off.

It’s easy to clean! It comes with a brush which can fit through the straw with only a little effort but I prefer this so I am able to clean out any possible mould. (We’re not really good at cleaning out the bottle every day, oops, guilty as a busy mum!)

We’ve had it for over 2 years now and it has survived a lot of drops due to the silicone sleeve and the handles. The handles are a bit scratched up now but it doesn’t impact the use of the bottle or the hygiene aspect.

We’re really happy to have found a non-toxic bottle for our baby.

It comes in several bright colours (my husband chose grey! Go figure!) and two different volumes - 150mL and 240mL.

All the colours and sizes and spouts!

And they’re all adaptable to your baby’s development needs with teats, sippy, slow flow straw for 6 months onwards and high flow straw for 12 months plus. The handles are also removable and they sell all the parts separately too.

According to their website, all parts are BPA, PVC, Phthalate and Polycarbonate free and the bottle is FDA and European tested and approved.

I bought ours directly from the Cherub Baby website but they sell them on various other websites including Amazon.
